The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO is hiring a Digital Communications Consultant to help amplify the voice of ocean science in service of a sustainable future.
About the Role
As part of the IOC Communications Team, the consultant will play a key role in crafting and delivering strategic digital communications across IOC’s global platforms. This includes shaping narratives, building campaigns, and enhancing visibility of critical work related to ocean science, sustainability, and the UN Ocean Decade.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement digital content strategies aligned with IOC’s mission and goals.
- Create engaging, accessible content that highlights the diversity of IOC’s programmes, regional bodies, and global initiatives.
- Manage and grow IOC’s presence across social media and digital platforms.
- Use analytics tools to monitor performance and optimize engagement.
- Provide communication support for key institutional events and global initiatives, including the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

Work Environment
- Remote position with flexibility, but significant overlap with Central European Time (CET) is required to enable real-time collaboration with the IOC team.
- Occasional travel may be required and will be covered in line with UNESCO policies
