Position Overview
The Pisces Foundation invites applications for the position of Fellow, a two-year, full-time role based in San Francisco. Reporting to the Program Director, the Fellow will play an integral part in advancing the Foundation’s environmental and San Francisco-focused programs. Working within a collaborative matrix-management structure, the Fellow will contribute to a wide range of projects spanning grantmaking, evaluation, communications, and strategic initiatives.
This position provides a unique opportunity for early- to mid-career professionals to gain hands-on experience in philanthropy, nonprofit operations, and environmental strategy. Through close collaboration with senior staff and partners, the Fellow will strengthen the Foundation’s capacity to deliver high-impact, community-driven solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Program Implementation
The Fellow will work with program staff to achieve the goals outlined in the Foundation’s strategic plan. Responsibilities include supporting the design and launch of new initiatives in both the Environmental and San Francisco portfolios. The Fellow will also help manage ongoing signature projects, assist in developing partnerships, coordinate outreach efforts, and organize convenings that build field-wide collaboration.
Additionally, the Fellow will contribute to the assessment of grantee progress and program impact, ensuring alignment with the Foundation’s mission to create measurable environmental and social outcomes.
Grants Management Support
Working closely with the Director of Operations, Grants Management team, and program colleagues, the Fellow will assist in ensuring efficient and compliant grants management processes. This includes supporting proposal reviews, maintaining accurate records in the grants database, and helping to design tools for tracking progress and outcomes across the Foundation’s expanding portfolio.
Communications
The Fellow will contribute to internal and external communications by managing website updates, coordinating design refreshes, and supporting recruitment materials such as job postings and staff profiles. Additional tasks include editing and proofreading documents, publishing blog posts, and maintaining social media and mailing lists.
Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring a combination of strong analytical ability, communication skills, and passion for environmental and social impact.
Required qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of professional experience.
- Demonstrated project management skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks under tight deadlines.

Location and Schedule
The Fellow will be based in San Francisco and is expected to work from the Foundation’s downtown office three days per week under a hybrid schedule. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area and must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Compensation and Benefits
Pisces Foundation offers a competitive starting salary between $77,000 and $95,000, commensurate with experience. The compensation package includes platinum-level health, dental, and vision insurance; life insurance; flexible spending accounts; paid time off; holidays; and bereavement leave. The Foundation conducts annual salary reviews to ensure alignment with market trends in the philanthropic field.
