Program Structure and Organizers
The program is a joint effort organized by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin (MfN), with active participation from various African and European cultural institutions. The Museums Lab program includes a digital launch, three learning modules (conducted online and in person in Berlin and Addis Ababa), short residencies at partner museums in both Africa and Europe, and a virtual closing session.
Program Coverage
For the on-site components, DAAD covers the following costs:
- International and national travel to and from program locations (economy-class airfare and second-class train tickets)
- Local transportation costs (if applicable) during Modules 2, 3, and the residency periods
- Airport transfers (for Module 3 in Addis Ababa and relevant residencies in Africa)
- Visa fees (for official visa processes)
- Health insurance (up to €40 reimbursement)
- Accommodation during on-site modules and residencies
- Program-related entry fees
- A daily allowance for meals not covered by the program during on-site modules and residencies
Eligibility Requirements
This opportunity is open to professionals from African and European countries who:
- Are currently working in the museum, culture, or arts sector
- Have at least two years of practical experience in a museum, heritage site, or cultural space in fields such as archaeology, architecture, art, cultural history, natural sciences, or technology
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to the program
- Possess adequate English language skills
- Reside anywhere in Africa or European at the time the application is submitted
